A coastal lunch . തുറയിലെ ഊണ്‌

The life in the costal areas of kerala is something different.

Not talking about the beaches like kovalam or somatheeram.

Should go the fishermen’s villages.
See some dark men, women, dogs, children, red mud paths near the rocky fences and hundreds of tiny gray huts surrounded by thousands of coconut trees.

On a sunny afternoon you’ll see a yellow still life with wooden boats and brown fishing nets with a backdrop of a mosque or church.

Whenever I see this picture, I remember the lunch I had on that day from a small ‘tea shop’ with my friend.

The meals were served on plantain leaves.

The side dishes were spicy.

And the ‘special’ for the day was fresh fish fry.

വിഴിഞ്ഞത്തേക്കു പോകുന്ന വഴിയാണ്‌.

ഉച്ച കഴിഞ്ഞ സമയം.

കടലില്‍ നോക്കിയാല്‍ കണ്ണു പൊള്ളും.

കരയില്‍ പുതുതായിത്തീര്‍ത്ത ചെമ്മണ്‍ പാത.

കടലുകേറാതിരിക്കാന്‍ പാറക്കല്ലുകളുടെ പാറാവ്‌.

ഈചിത്രം കാണുമ്പോഴൊക്കെ അന്നു കഴിച്ച ഊണാണോര്‍മ്മ വരുന്നത്‌.

വറുത്ത അയലയും വെളുത്ത ചോറും.

കനത്ത കഷ്ണങ്ങളുള്ള സാമ്പാറും തോരനും.

ഉടുപ്പിടാതെ വരുന്ന തടിയന്മാരായ മുക്കുവന്മാരില്‍ നിന്ന് രണ്ടാമതൂണു വാങ്ങുന്നതിന്‌ ഹോട്ടലുടമ പണമീടാക്കും.

എന്നാലേ മുതലാകൂ!
