ഇളവെയിലില്‍ . in the golden glow

എന്റെ ഫ്യൂജി കളര്‍ പേപ്പര്‍ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ ഫോളിയേജ് ഗ്രീന്‍ തീര്‍ക്കുമാറ് 

മഞ്ഞനിറമായിരുന്നു ആ പ്രഭാതത്തിന്.  

സ്വര്‍ണ്ണത്തിന് സുഗന്ധം എന്ന പോലെ ആയിരുന്നു,

ഇളവെയിലില്‍ തിളങ്ങുന്ന പൊന്തക്കാടുകള്‍ വരയ്ക്കാനിരുന്ന എന്റെ മുന്നിലേക്ക് 

ഒരു കൂട്ടം മയിലുകള്‍ എത്തിയത്.

.

Every blades of grass were glowing.

Every twigs were bustling.

It was indeed a dream like day break, 

when pea cocks were honking their mating calls.

പൊന്തക്കാട് . bushes

My small bag was filled with colours and brushes.

And there were bushes every where to draw.

They were different form the bushes of our place.

Yellows, browns and olive greens were shining with their 

contrasting tints and shades.

Cries of some lonely pea cocks were heard chronically.

ട്രെയിനിലെ സെക്കന്റ് ക്ലാസ്സിന്റെ ഗന്ധവുമായി 

ഉഷ്ണിച്ച് പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ ഫുട്ട്ബോര്‍ഡും നിറഞ്ഞു കവിയുന്ന 

തിരക്കുമായി ലോക്കല്‍ ബസ്സുകള്‍! 

എങ്ങനെയോ ഇവിടെ എത്തി. 

ഇവിടം സ്വര്‍ഗ്ഗമാണെന്നു തോന്നിയതു വെറുതേയായിരുന്നില്ല. 

പട്ടണത്തില്‍ നിന്നകന്ന് സ്വസ്ഥമായ ഒരു സ്ഥലം. 

പൊന്തക്കാടുകളും ചെറുവഴികളും 

കട്ടിയില്ലാക്കാറ്റും ഒക്കെയായി ഒരിടം. 

കൂട്ടിന് ഒരു പറ്റം മയിലുകളും.

തൃച്ചിയിലെ ഒരു പാര്‍പ്പിട മേഘല.

വൃത്തിയുള്ള നിരത്തുകള്‍.

ചുറ്റും കുറ്റിക്കാട്.

മയിലുകള്‍ എവിടെയും യഥേഷ്ടം വിഹരിക്കുന്നു.

പാതയോരത്ത്, വീട്ടുവളപ്പില്‍, പൊന്തക്കാട്ടില്‍, നടുറോഡില്‍!

ചില പൂവാലന്മാര്‍ മരത്തിനു മുകളിലേക്കു പറന്നുകയറി

പ്രൌഡിയോടെ അവിടെ ഇരിപ്പുറപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

പെണ്‍‌മയിലുകള്‍ ചിതലുകളേയോ, പുഴുക്കളേയോ

ചിക്കിപ്പെറുക്കുന്നു.

ചില പൂവന്മാരെ കണ്ടാല്‍ പിടയാണെന്നേ തോന്നൂ!

വാലു പൊഴിഞ്ഞവ.

പുതിയ വാലുമുളയ്ക്കും വരെ നാണക്കേട് സഹിക്കണം.

Men without mustache may be great looking.

But peacocks without tails look funny!
Here are some tailless peacocks from Trichi.

In this part of Trichi it’s easy to capture peacocks in to your paintings.

Even if the peacock you are drawing is moving away from the frame,

you need not worry.

Within no time another set of peacocks will be available there!
After framing the painting I have shown this work

to one of my friends.

And he said,

“Peacocks moving from right to left is inauspicious”.

But I don’t mind.

Let them walk as they like.

Shameless cat . നാണമില്ലാത്ത പൂച്ച

I was in search of some peacocks.

They were everywhere in that area of Trichi.

Some were with tails some without that.

Some were in Singles and others in groups.

But the moment I took my brush, they became ashamed and moved away.

Then this shameless cat that was sleeping on a cement bunch woke up, looked at me and gave a teasing smile.

തൃച്ചി.

പട്ടണത്തില്‍ നിന്നും ദൂരെ ഒരു പാര്‍പ്പിടമേഘല.

എത്ര വിചിത്രം, മയിലുകള്‍!

അവയെ എവിടെയും കാണാം.

വാലുള്ളവ, വാലില്ലാത്തവ.

ഒറ്റയ്ക്ക്‌, കൂട്ടമായി.

പാതയോരത്തും പൊന്തക്കാടുകളിലും വീടിന്റെ പിന്നാമ്പുറത്തും ചിലപ്പോള്‍ നടുറോഡില്‍ പോലും!

എന്നാല്‍ (ശ്രീനിവാസന്‍ പറയുമ്പോലെ) ഇത്‌ ഒരു മയിലല്ല.

ഒരു പൂച്ച.

മയിലുകള്‍ എന്റെ ബ്രഷ്‌ കണ്ടപ്പോഴേ നാണം കൊണ്ട്‌ ഓടിയൊളിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

ഇവനാണെങ്കിലോ, നാണം എന്തെന്നേ അറിയില്ല.

കണ്ടില്ലേ നോക്കുന്നത്‌.

കലപില കൂട്ടുന്ന കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍.

ചുവന്ന കുപ്പായമണിഞ്ഞ്‌ ഊഞ്ഞാലിലാടുന്ന ഇവള്‍ - പ്രിയ

Old man of trichi . ഒറ്റയ്ക്കിരിക്കുന്ന വൃദ്ധന്‍

Getting late.

Sky became dark.

Street lights woke up.

A lonely crescent rose with a cool breeze.

Everyone was back to their home.

But this old man was still sitting on the culvert.

എത്രയോ നേരമായി വൃദ്ധന്‍ അവിടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

ഇരുട്ടായി.

ദൂരെ നിന്നും ഒരു പാട്ടു കേള്‍ക്കാം.

സ്റ്റേജില്‍ കലാപരിപാടികള്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ തുടങ്ങും.

സ്ത്രീകളും കുട്ടികളും തിരക്കിട്ട്‌ അങ്ങോട്ട്‌ പോയിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു.

വൃദ്ധന്‍ അപ്പോഴും അവിടെത്തന്നെ ഇരുന്നു.

I was sitting in the gallery of a stadium and watching a march past.
These ladies were just in front of me.
And I got an ample chance to capture them.
തൃച്ചിയിലെ മറ്റൊരു സായാഹ്നം.
മൈതാനത്ത്‌ മാര്‍ച്‌പാസ്റ്റ്‌ നടക്കുകയാണ്‌.
ഓരത്ത്‌ ഒരുപാട്‌ കാഴ്ചക്കാര്‍.
അവരിലൊരാളായി ഞാനും

She asked me,

can you draw my picture?

I said why not?

It was an evening at Trichi

and I was sitting in a park

trying to make a quick sketch of a girl swinging.

തൃച്ചിയിലെ ഒരു പാര്‍പ്പിടമേഘല.

വൈകുന്നേരത്ത്‌ ഞാനൊരു പാര്‍ക്കില്‍ പോയി.

വെയില്‍ മങ്ങുമ്പോള്‍ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ ഊഞ്ഞാലിലാടുന്നു.

കയ്യിലെ കടലാസും ചായങ്ങളും കണ്ട്‌ ഇവള്‍ അടുത്തു വന്നു.

എന്നിട്ടു ചോദിച്ചു.

" എന്നെ വരയ്ക്കാമോ?"
